Hurricane Otis made landfall overnight near Acapulco, Mexico, as a Category 5 hurricane with 165 mph winds. The storm rapidly grew from a tropical storm Tuesday morning to Category 5 by late evening, the fastest strengthening on record in the northeast Pacific.
The government has no information so far on deaths, Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador told reporters early Wednesday, but added, “there’s no communication [with the area], we don’t know.”
